The theme of the puzzle was the centenary of Emily Davison's protest in running into the course during the running of the 1913 Epsom Derby and colliding with the King's horse Anmer and subsequently dying from her injuries. The protest was part of the campaign for women's suffrage. The initials of the words with half their letters missing (LAVATORY, INCLINES, BRANCHES, ESPY, REASON, TITLES, YOUR) spelt LIBERTY.
