This happened last night and I thought it was a one off, it happened again this morning at work so it's worthy of a mention.
1) arrive at the forum not logged in (even though I said to 'remember me')
2) log into forum, my name appears as being online, but I'm not actually online and the 'log in' box is still at the bottom of the screen
3) Log in again - all is good.
But not sure what's happening with stage one and two? #1 may be if you haven't changed the cookie names and are just using the default one, which means other forums that do the same will clash the cookies on my machine.
Any ideas?

Cookie name changed (hopefully). I've seen number 2) as well. Before the domain name propagated, the login page didn't work at all. It was very strange. |

I'll keep you posted - hopefully the cookie rename would have done the trick - FMI, what's it called now? (I often copy and certain cookies before clearing the folder so I don't have to relogin to all of the forums I have joined.)

I also seem to be having log in (or rather log out) problems. Each time I refresh the board, it seems to log me out automatically and I have to enter my username/password again despite having the "log me in automatically" box ticked.

That would be the cookies, which are now changed so it should be okay.

Did this cookie rename do the trick or did you do something else? Did you only rename them via the admin section?
It's happening on another board and is very frustrating.

All I did was change the name in the admin section. |

Hi Guys,
I am still having that problem despite having cleared out my cookies and starting again. Yet I can log into other boards using phpBB without any problems at all. |

I had a similar problem (ie it wouldn't remember that I told it to automatically log me in). The problem came about after I cleared my cache - before that it was working fine. The solution? Empty your cookie directory - it means you'll have to re enter all your passwords, but it worked for me... |

I haven't had any problems at all since the site cookies were changed some 10 days ago. I'm automatically logged on now whenever I come to the forum - but I didn't need to delete any of the "personal" cookies stored on my computer.
I'm also using IE 6.0.28 for what that's worth.
