I got to 2181, which looks enough l;ike yet another sequal to 2001: a Space Odyssey that I got spooked and stopped playing. _________________ There are only 10 kinds of people in the world--those who know binary, and those who don't. |

Is there actually any skill to this? When I tried setting up pretty patterns, the most I got was a few hundred. Now I'm just clicking randomly and out of nowhere I get 1445 _________________ Puzzletome - does exactly what it says on the tin |

I tried to sit and figure out which would be the best bit to click for the greatest result - all I got from that was a headache. Then I tried setting up some chain reactions but they kept going off before I was ready.
So now I just click away at random, and got my best scores that way.
As another diversion, turn the volume on your PC in the office up a bit, then quickly turn it down when someone comes near the door... everyone at my work thinks they're hearing things. _________________ Banging one's head against the wall seldom results in the answer falling out. |

Yes, there is.
I broke the 3000 barrier by applying logic to it.
Near as I can work out, if one end is connected the piece rotates 90 degrees. If both ends are connected, the piece rotates 180 degrees and DOES NOT trigger its neighbouring piece as it passes 90 degrees.
That said, there's some degree of "wobble" to it as perfectly symmetrical patterns give different results when started from different sides. Possibly it checks for cascades in a NESW order?
My best pattern is below (in invisible ink), starting point is the *
