Is this an official instruction to stop this game because it's going to crash the site? |

LOL who am I to give "official" instructions !
I just reckon it's no coincidence that this site has gone slow since this thread appeared. |

Maybe it would have worked better if more people had kept to the "keep the size per pic to max 350x350 (if possible...)" rule (though even 350 is probably a little bigger than necessary) - it's not hard to resize a picture you know! |

I spent longer than I might have done sifting through Google images for small pictures for this game - this is the first I've ever posted an image and I've just been copying and pasting the http address and putting the 'img' stuff either side - I'd appreciate an idiot's guide to re-sizing them if you don't mind! The idiot's guide. This is a post that was going to go up until SparkPlug put a stop to this thread:
The Management wrote: | We don't mean to be spoilsports, but there are now two threads that encourage the posting of images. In and of itself this is not a bad thing, but we'd ask that if you are going to post in them, please don't hotlink images from other sites.
What is hotlinking? This is where you link directly to the image on somebody else's webspace. It has a few consequences you may not be aware of:
* Every time somebody views the image in the Puzzletome thread, the site hosting the image has to send the information. This causes the amount of bandwidth they are using to rise, and can end up costing *them* money.
* Some websites do not like people linking directly to their images. It's not uncommon for them to replace the image you're linking to with something unsavoury. We've had to remove at least one such image in the '1000 posts' thread already.
So we'd ask that if you want to post images like this (and they are in the public domain) you first copy them across to your own webspace and link to them from there. If you don't have anywhere you can put them and would like to contribute, get in touch with us and we'll try to sort something out for you. |
While the above post isn't directly about resizing images, it is a very important factor. You can't resize a hotlinked image as you are reliant on the original copy of it. However, if you are copying into your own web space you can do whatever you want to it. In case it's of use to anyone: the simplest thing for PC users to do is to copy the image into Paint, do Edit|Select All, do Image|Stretch/Skew, type appropriately small percentages into the horizontal and vertical boxes, save, upload and link to the image.

Thank you for the idiots guide, I like to learn and I am fairly computer incompetent. In future I'll know the consequences of using images direct from thw web.
As the thread is possibly causing problems to the site, fun though the idea was, would it be better all round to delete the whole thing?

I am sorry for causing so much trouble. I am playing this "game" on several sites and it has done no harm so far. But by all means, delete this thread if it is causing any problems!!!!
