We are pleased to announce the forthcoming attraction of a mini contest based on the upcoming events in Germany. A short set of puzzles has been written by Claire (username Hall) with a football theme (that's soccer for the uninitiated Razz ). We should be launching this sometime next week. Get your boots ready!

Well apparently there'll be some games where 22 players run around after a ball and then the Germans will win on penalties. 8)

You may have a problem in the world cup if you think USA will win. Its not quite the same as your world series (limited to the northern half of one continent) ...............
But we wish you well.

Oh Footie. Now I know what you're talking about. That's the game when half (the male half) try to guess how long it takes for a broken foot to mend, or am I confussing it with the game where you bounce a ball between a rail and a parrallel line and try to guess which side the ball lands. It must be a complicated game, one has been ongoing for the past 40 years, I heard.

Well yes complicated it appears to be (although we both know it is completely straigtforward). Men (who else) wrote the rules and included the infamous off-side rule so that women wouldn't understand the game and they could feel all superior. The big drawback with that is that having written the rule they no longer understand it themselves so spend all their time trying to explain their way round it Razz

I get it, if the ball lands behind the line it is 'off-side' and if it lands in front of the line it is 'on'side'. Now what is so complicated about that?

CA - I sometimes despair of you...LOL! Razz

You forget that *men* wrote this rule - so do you think it could possibly be as logical as you suggest...? Surprised

How can it be football, when you don't even have the right number of posts, and the fellows with the flags are on the sides instead of behind the goals.

It is called football because the players kick it with their feet. Unlike the American and Australian versions where the ball spends a lot of the time in the players hands. Razz

And, what's so complicated about the off-side rule??

Nothing. I explained it above Razz And I thought that the 'Hand of God' was sometimes allowed. Football indeed!
