I have no idea how much bandwidth this site will use per month - we have a pretty large bandwidth cap, but if the site becomes popular, I can see it being used up quite quickly, especially if there are lots of graphics on the site.

The hosting company we are using charge an extra £180 per year for 5Gb extra bandwidth per month, and if we go down that route it will soon become unsustainable. So we will probably need some ad revenue or something of the sort. Anyone had experience with this?

Guys we were looking into servers - one I found, I think it was called Lunar, they offer 500Mb of space and 20Gb/month transfers for $US8 a month... not sure how that compares with where you're at now

Certainly better than where we are. I reckon what we'll do is get everything up and working here, and evaluate our bandwidth requirements. If we look like we are going to be struggling, I suggest we move over to lunarpages.

It sounds like you only get one FTP account, one SQL database and no mention of SSH shell access with lunarpages (although the web interface lets you modify file permissions and suchlike - it's the same as the one this host uses). Here we can set up 10 FTP accounts, 10 SQL databases (though it's easy enough to get by with just the one) and we can (wait for it) have a shopping cart!!!!

I'm easy about where we go from here. Let's see what bandwidth usage is like and then re-evaluate.

I'll point her over... she seems to be distancing herself from anything that may be construed as intellectual (monkeys throw their poo!!) so I don't like your chances Sad
