The enumeration for 18D was updated a few days ago. Thanks to those who caught it.

21D is a three letter entry.

Explanations are now in place for the excellent November puzzle produced by JWawro. Although the final stage could be thought of as slightly convoluted, this is entirely as a result of the immense compilation task Jay set for himself. As a compiler myself, I certainly appreciated the difficulty of this. Smile

Some feedback from others on the puzzle:

- I've never seen the final grid being another cryptic clue before. It must have taken quite a while to create!
- My two favorite [clues] were QUASAR being defined as "A STAR CROSS'D SCENE" and the KNAVE of hearts being defined as a "DESSERT THIEF". For QUASAR I had to get all the checked boxes before I could finally figure it out and I thought for sure that DESSERT was the extra word until almost the very end!.
- It can be tricky with “superfluous word” clues to make it look like you haven’t just created a normal cryptic clue and then added a random word in as an afterthought – I think you achieved this, and it was very enjoyable.
- Clues I liked the most were 13a (being the last one I solved), 24a, 3d, 6d and 26d.
- Constructive feedback on some other clues: 13a/12d: In both clues, there were two words that could have been validly removed, which I didn’t like. Especially 12d, where the two words started with different letters.
- 4d: When you have a word with more than one O, does “lose nothing” mean you remove one instance of a O or all Os? Or does it not really work? Personally I think “lose nothing” can only work for a word with just one O.

Also a couple of people pointed out that 18d should have been clued as 2 words. This was corrected early on in November.

My thanks to JimFromMN for pointing out that an error had crept into the November 2015 puzzle. As a result, the clue for 6d has now been slightly changed, so if you do a full refresh on the crossword page you should see the modified clue.

My apologies for the mistake making its way into the puzzle. Embarassed

Hi all,
When do explanations get added to the solutions?  I was curious how last months Up To Date worked, since I failed at it, and I see the explanations stop in April of 2016.

I must admit I've lapsed somewhat, mostly because they take quite a bit of work to put in place and I wasn't sure whether anyone was reading them. I stand corrected, and I shall start with last months puzzle. I'll post here again when it is in place.

BTW, this thread is open to anyone who ever wants further explanation (or PM me if you're shy).

Explanations for the October puzzle now in place.

If there are any of the missing ones in particular that anyone would like explaining then please post or PM. Otherwise I will get them in place as I get the chance.

Oops - bit of a typo from me thinking that May was month 4! Embarassed I've fixed it now, so you can try resubmitting.

My thanks to JimFromMN for pointing out the following typo in the July puzzle:

14a Harmful leer is due to cause runctions (11)

This should, of course, be 'ructions' (and indeed it now is). I don't believe this should have much effect on the solvability of the puzzle.

For this oversight, the playtesters and I will now remove ourselves to be ritually flogged with the traditional Puzzletome birch... Surprised  Razz

My thanks (and respect for spotting it) to JimFromMN for pointing out that the solution grid for the April puzzle had a typo (26a was listed as SLEDGE instead of the correct answer PLEDGE). This has now been amended.

Thanks to HayleyRabbit for pointing out that the explanations were missing for both the June 2016 and August 2016 puzzles. These are now in place, in case you are interested.

My thanks go to JimFromMN for spotting that the answer grid to the August puzzle had the incorrect solution for 22a. This has now been corrected.

It may well be too late for most people, and it was actually me that spotted the error (!) but the incorrect clue (an old version) was in place for 1a in the January puzzle. This has now been corrected, but my apologies for the oversight. Embarassed
