There will be a puzzlet posted each day, which will lead to a short phrase (not necessarily meaning anything). When the puzzlet set is complete (or more likely before!) the theme of the next contest can be deduced. The first person to PM the theme to me or The Hirsute One will receive the kudos of their name in lights. Smile

In addition, when all puzzlets have been posted there is a further 2-word phrase (4,3) that could theoretically be extracted. I should add that this part defeated my erstwhile colleague, so kudos plus will be given to anyone who can PM that!

The theme (and of course launch date/time) will be revealed approximately a day after all of the puzzlets have been posted.

No answers to be posted in this thread please!!

This text and the following are not part of the puzzlet.

Alas the first 3 positions in the race to get the contest theme have now been filled, but the 2-word phrase is still up for grabs. Smile

As promised, with a bonus for second and third. Smile

Two-word phrase still unsolved, although one person has been quite close method-wise. Answers, theme and launch date/time over the next couple of days.

Answers to the puzzlets are as follows:

1. PINT, TENT PEG, STYLE,MONEY, GREY, FIRMS => PERMITTING SYSTEM PLENTY OF ENERGY
2. Atbash => BUTTER LOOSE SUGAR DENSELY CRAMMED
3. Substitution => CANASTA TUESDAYS AND POKER FRIDAYS
4. Anagrams of: vicar into, sight gal, uses oh, plus hate => VICTORIAN GASLIGHT HOUSES SULPHATE
5. Anagrams => DENVER BRONCO LOSS USUALLY PAINFUL
6. ASCII => Gold atom (Au) sole umber pigment!
7. Missing dwarf, abbrev, ide/den/tif/ide, opposite, knot type, circular word chain with missing word => HAPPY RAM IDENTIFIED IN SHEEP GALA

As highlighted, you will see that each answer contains an embedded word that refers to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This will be the theme of our next contest. If any more details on the above are required or anything is not clear, please PM me.

The aforementioned 2-word phrase (4,3) has still not been found by anyone, so we will leave that task open for another day or two (or until someone gets it).

Contest launch details are:
Seven Wonders
will open at
12:00pm BST (11:00am UTC)
on
Tuesday 20th June.

And we have a winner! Thumbs up Very many congratulations to 3x7 for spotting the following. Including spaces, the 7 answers were all of identical length:

Code:
PERMITTING SYSTEM PLENTY OF ENERGY
BUTTER LOOSE SUGAR DENSELY CRAMMED
CANASTA TUESDAYS AND POKER FRIDAYS
VICTORIAN GASLIGHT HOUSES SULPHATE
DENVER BRONCO LOSS USUALLY PAINFUL
Gold atom (Au) sole umber pigment!
HAPPY RAM IDENTIFIED IN SHEEP GALA

Index the start letter of each wonder (temple, gardens, etc) to get 15,16,5,14,12,9,4 which translates to OPEN LID.

A highly commended goes to pianoman who spotted the method, but unfortunately discarded the spaces.

I look forward with great anticipation to 3x7's triumphant victory in Seven Wonders along with the next HTPO contest! Very Happy
