There are no words to express the loss we all feel on your behalf, Caro. But we continue to send you our love and support and hope it will help you through this difficult time - and our thoughts and prayers will be with you on Monday when the funeral takes place.
I hope you won't mind if I post a photo of Yvonne here. After sharing the events of the last year - and even knowing that the end was inevitable - I still feel somehow that I have lost a friend whom I never really had the chance to get to know...
Big hug...

Dear Caroline,
though everyone knew Yvonne's death was coming, that doesn't take the pain away. I only have a vague clue as to what you're going through, for if I'd loose my best friend, I think I'd cry for many months. My thoughts have been, and are, with you, and with Yvonne's children, and her ex husband.
I tried to find a poem that expressed feelings of mourning, and found this:
Tears flow down to endless streams of sadness
(by Nicholas Gordon)
Tears flow down to endless streams of sadness,
Eloquent of beauty without end.
After all, we mourn the loss of gladness,
Riches that, for death, we could not spend.
So sweet is life, that does such treasures send

We feel the pain, but mis the words to express...but found a poem.
Opeens vliegt de vlinder weg
op een onverwacht moment
de vlinder laat veel achter
maar had dit zelf ook niet gepland
Soms lijkt het alsof de vlinder
er nog is
zomaar op een ogenblik, heel
even
dan helpt het je wat beter te
voelen
en sterkt het je om door te gaan
met leven
Maar het blijft anders zonder
de vlinder
het moois en het goede uit het
leven voelt veel minder
zoals vroeger kan het niet meer
zijn
en dat besef doet veel verdriet
en pijn..
Suddenly the butterfly flies away
At an unexpected moment
The butterfly leaves much behind
But hadn’t planned this itself, either
Sometimes, it seems as if the butterfly is still there,
Just on a moment, for a short while
It helps you to feel a little better
And strengthens you to continue living
But it remains different without the butterfly
All beautiful and good feels less
It can never be the way it was again
And knowing that, causes much grief and pain… |

Dear Caroline
I did not know Yvonne, nor do I know her story, but that does not matter. From the beautiful picture that T22 posted here, she appears to be a very warm person, and from your own post I can tell that she was a very dear friend to you. That is enough for me to understand your pain and feel sadness at her passing. Only time and the memory of your shared years will dull that pain, but I hope that our thoughts and prayers for you, Yvonne's family and friends, will bring some comfort.
Much love to you all.

Caro,
When my dear friend passed away very suddenly, I found these words of comfort. I hope they may offer you some too. Thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Shirley
I am standing upon that foreshore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and the sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says “ There, she’s gone.”
“Gone where?”
“Gone from my sight, that’s all”.
She is just as large in mast and spar and hull as ever she was when she left my side... Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And at that moment when we say “There, she’s gone” there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout. “Here she comes”
That is dying.

I'm so sorry...the song is beautiful and so are the poems already posted. I wish I could do something to lessen your pain but only time can do that.
My prayers and thoughts are with you at this sad time.

I want to thank you all very much for your sweet words and poems, either here or by e-mail/pm.
It feels like a warm bath, knowing so many friends care.
