We've missed you, Si. We just assumed you were busy with 2 a.m. feedings and diaper changes. Very Happy

Is that something to be proud of?

There are none so blind as those who cannot see!

Confused

I think of it as a great achievement as we have held on to the top teams for this long...I expected us to fall in 2 weeks...

Or perhaps you don't understand yet how to write puzzles that have clear direction. That is not an achievement. It is a mark of failure. Perhaps you should be asking yourselves where you have gone wrong.

(guess I'm not going to win the Miss Popularity Contest 2006 Award now...LOL!)

We look forward to getting our report cards back with some constructive criticism on the puzzles that did not have a clear direction, as well as the puzzles that you thought were more appropriate. We clearly have the desire to write puzzles.....

On the flip side of the coin....

I don't think that the span of time spent on a series of puzzles is a plausible indicator of the quality of the puzzles. I appreciate that this is a contest and a race to the finish, but whether it takes you three or thirty days to complete a set of puzzles should be irrelevant.

(please note the difference in pronouns used above)

Personally I think there is a world of difference between puzzles that do not have a clear direction and ones that go in a different direction to previous puzzles. I would like to think that it is the latter route that we have taken as team. It is not a failure on our part if puzzlers have difficulty in solving, just as it is not a failure on other puzzle writers parts where we have had difficulty solving their puzzles.

T22

Or maybe just because we have brought new puzzle ideas to the table and didn't use Back to Basics as the bases for all of our puzzles...just because you can't solve it in 20 minutes and move on doesn't make it a bad puzzle just a new idea by a new team to shake everyone out of the rut we all have been playing in for so long ..all of these are solvable as Chris solved them by herself with little or no help...

Q: I've got something in my pocket. What is it...?
A: The gatekeeper's anthology.

This will make sense to seasoned puzzlers...LOL! Very Happy

Wrong.

When not one of 20 hard-core solvers can solve a puzzle after, say, 3 days of sweating blood then it is my belief that the fault lies with the puzzle.

Which puzzle is that a reference to?

Also I am intrigued that T22 seems to be able to pass opinions on puzzles in a contest in which she doesn't appear to be taking part.

To be fair, after the dust settles from our first contest, I think we'd like to see the unbiased feedback on what constituted 'bad puzzle design' on our part, and what you could suggest for improvement. Allow us the same courtesy to pull back the proverbial curtain (in a private forum, perhaps) on these puzzles, and we might show you something you missed. Or, conversely, you will have helped us become better puzzle writers.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to pay any kudos to puzzles that you thought were well designed, if they exist. This should be a growth opportunity and not a personal attack (IMHO).

I guess I want to prevent the following exchange from continuing to happen

"That was a bad puzzle"
"No, it wasn't"
"Yes, it was"

I think that trying to evaluate this while in the midst of a puzzle and a race to the finish might cloud judgments.

We are (and have been referred as) the "Puzzletome" team. T22 is a Puzzletome admin. She has full access to the forum we use for the contest.

Well said, Jay. I think everybody has an opportunity to learn here
