How about having a message that says something like, " close, very close but not quite there yet" sorta thing on a wrong answer, so you get an idea you're in the right direction?
I understand this might be quite a lot of work tho  |

How about a big hand that extends from your monitor and slaps you round the face when you are the first to try a wrong answer  |
